from where it all began...
MAIA well co. was founded by Zoe-Maia, a Holistic Health Coach, Psychology Graduate and Pilates Instructor.
From an early age, Zoe was exposed to the importance of a healthy lifestyle and would naturally opt for the fruit bowl instead of all the cakes, chocolate and sweets at special occasions. "What is wrong with her?" her friends would wonder. She didn't necessarily have the 'perfect' diet, but life had always been about balance and so far, life was good.
Whilst studying Psychology at university, she became fascinated when learning about how and why people come to make certain decisions in life, particularly in the areas of diet and lifestyle, when they are aware of the fact that they are harming their minds and bodies, day in day out. Was it an addiction, or was it that the general public are simply unaware of the negative effects their diet and lifestyle choices were having upon their health?
After graduating from university, Zoe became a victim of her own concerns without even being aware of it herself. One career opportunity lead to another, and she found herself highly stressed out, severely anxious, running on little sleep and taking part in highly intensive exercise if she had a spare hour. This lifestyle gradually began to take its toll and slowly but surely, she began to notice how it was affecting not only her diet, body, mood and appetite, but worst of all, her happiness. At times she would crave unhealthy foods due to hormone imbalances or little sleep, and would unintentionally lose weight from stress, in turn leading to emotional instability and even hair loss. After numerous doctors appointments, she began to realise that these side effects were purely a result of stress and so became both intrigued and concerned around how much stress can affect the body in ways which just cannot be seen. If it was happening to her, it must be happening to many others and it needed to stop.
Zoe decided to reassess her life, going back to basics to look at what brought her the most happiness. Rather than purely focusing on her diet, she became mindful about various other factors that were affecting her life and in turn her health, from things such as her career, her relationships and her exercise patterns. She chose to be kind to herself as ultimately, she deserved no less. After slowing down and spending more time practicing less intensive forms of exercise such as Yoga and Pilates, she started to deeply appreciate the calming and beneficial effects on not only her body but her mind, and so began training as a Pilates instructor with the highly respected Balanced Body in London to deepen her knowledge and understanding of the practice.
Zoe had always known that she wanted to spend her life doing something which she felt hugely passionate about and where she could help others. She's always believed that it's also important to live with no regrets because every decision and experience leads you onto your path, it's just about timing. Remember: life's a journey, not a destination. So after much consideration and re-consideration, she took the big leap and left her full-time office job to further study at The Institute of Integrative Nutrition to become a Holistic Health Coach and teach full time as a Pilates Instructor.
MAIA well co. was developed as a service to support anyone who feels they are not living their best life and is looking for support to help them reach their personal health and wellness goals, whatever they may be. She is familiar with the feelings and worries 20 somethings go through and how this can affect our health, whether it be instability or deeper psychological issues, and is trained to help individuals achieve their desired life balance where their health does not need to compromise.
